Awards to the New Jetta

Jetta, the name to replace the Bora globally.
Already being sold in North America since the beginning of the year, the Volkswagen designed to be sportier than ever now complements the range of sedans below the new Passat.
Since its introduction in 1980 the sedan has found 2.2 million buyers between New York and Los Angeles. The Jetta thus accounts for a volume of approximately 40 percent of the brand. No other vehicle from a European carmaker is as popular among customers in America as this Volkswagen.
Model Chronology
The Jetta: 1979-1984
The Jetta was introduced as an additional derivative to the Golf in both 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan body styles. The Jetta was differentiated slightly through small design differences (e.g. headlights). Engines started with a 1.6L, four-cylinder developing 57kW.

The Jetta II: 1984-1991
The 2nd generation Jetta was again offered in 2 and 4-door body styles. In the USA, sales of the Jetta outnumbered those of the Golf 2:1. It was also one of the first Volkswagen models to be produced in China.

The Vento: 1991-1998
The 3rd generation saw a new name (except in America), improved equipment, independent materials and decorations and a stronger entrance engine (75bhp instead of 60bhp). This model was only offered as a four-door sedan and, styling-wise, was a much more integrated and cohesive design. The “new” VR6 engine was also available for the first time.

The Bora: 1998-2005
The 4th generation again saw a new name, improved equipment and independent design elements. With the introduction of the Bora Variant in the year 1999 the Bora series was broadened by a derivative.

The New Jetta: 2006-now
The 5th generation was launched in Hong Kong markets in June 2006 with Jetta Sport 2.0T FSI. The new Jetta follows the current VW design line and features of the new Passat and the Golf GTI. Comparison to the Bora, the new Jetta has significantly increased in all dimensions. Besides, the effective protection system and suspension has greatly improved over its predecessor. Two 1.4 TSI engines with 140bhp and 170bhp outputs are being added to the Jetta lineup this year.
