Die Glaserne Manufaktur
The Transparent Factory in Dresden
Not only classic garments, mechanical watches or fine wine are influenced by their origins but cars too. The Phaeton comes from Dresden - a town with a centuries-old tradition of craftsmanship and manufacture. Johann Gottfried Bottger created the first white procelain in Europe here in 1709. The first German locomotives were developed here in 1836 by Johann Andreas Schubert. And 100 years later the IHAGEE camera factory in Dresden built its first miniature relfex camera in the world.
The tradition is continued in the Transparent Factory. Since the year 2002 a new masterpiece comes into being in Dresden: the Phaeton. With innovative manufacturing methods modelled on traditional precision craftsmanship, each car is practically made by hand, putting a new slant on the great manufacturing history of Dresden.
Separated by only a glass pane from the produciton area, visitors receive a fascinating, informative insight into the assembly of the Phaeton. They see an out of ordinary production plant with parquet flooring and walls of glass, a plant that has nothing in common with conventional car factories.
The Transparent Factory not only sets new standards in automotive engineering. It is also the focal point of unique care for customers and prospective buyers which goes far beyond the car itself. A separate area is reserved for this service in the Transparent Factory: the exclusive customer's lobby.
