The Volkswagen rain sensor automatically regulates the intermittent wipe intervals of the windscreen wiper according to the intensity of the rain. The more drops of water there are on the windscreen, the less light the sensor receives. This information is passed to an electronic control unit which adapts the wipe intervals of the windscreen wiper accordingly.

Automatic headlight activation ensures optimum vehicle lighting at all times, without the driver having to switch the headlights on or off manually. The system offers the driver a significant gain in terms of convenience and safety. The headlights are automatically switched on by means of a twilight sensor as darkness sets in, or when driving through a tunnel in the daytime.
